"What Follows After Midnight"

“What Follows After Midnight”
Copyright by Frank DeCenso, Jr.
(Draft)

I’m on a highway leading somewhere,
[Seems I’ve been this way before;]
Looking for a sign to guide me,
To the one I loved before –
She left for some new dreamer,
Promised her the stars above;
[There’s a chance she’ll soon discover,]
Stardust falls without real love.

CHORUS
What follows after midnight,
And the moon just shuts down?
There is always some old starlight,
If you look around.

There’s a strong wind in this valley,
And it carries whispered pain;
As I travel I can hear her,
Dropping tears like summer rain –
In the distance burns a fire,
Burning low with it’s cold flame;
There she’s standing wet and lonely,
[Like the past she’s still the same.]

CHORUS
What follows after midnight,
And the moon just shuts down?
There is always some old starlight,
If you look around.?

[BRIDGE]
Deep within her's a tremble,
Is the end now finally here?
Says she’ll never chase no one,
‘Cause I’m the one who cares;
I give her my old promise,
If she strays I’ll find her there…

CHORUS
What follows after midnight,
And the moon just shuts down?
There is always some old starlight,
If you look around.?
