“Yesterday’s
Moon” (Long Version)
Copyright by Frank A. DeCenso, Jr.
Last night through hazy twilight,
And a fiery amber moon -
Saw her standing ‘neath a streetlight,
On an quiet avenue…
Many
years had passed between us,
But
her eyes were still the same;
She
smiled when she saw me,
And her whisper called my name.
So
we hugged into one shadow,
And
revived old memories;
All
the nights we held each other,
Promising
we wouldn’t leave…
She
said, “I'm sorry that I left you,
I
was young and so confused...
Some nights I still think of you,
But
it’s too late now to choose."
CHORUS
The past had come between us –
Maybe it was too soon;
We were now a bit older,
And maybe more in
tune…
To what was once
our –
Yesterday’s
moon.
We
talked for what seemed hours,
In midnight’s misty air;
The
feelings time had scattered,
Swiftly
returned to us there…
When
I felt that moment’s magic,
Nothing was left to chance;
I asked her if she wanted,
One
more try at our last dance…
CHORUS
The past had come between us –
Maybe it was too soon;
We were now a bit older,
And maybe more in tune…
To what was once our –
Yesterday’s moon.
While
we wondered ‘bout forever,
And
if now was too far gone;
I
knew that if we didn’t try,
We’d
waste this night’s swan song…
So we walked under the starlight,
Holding
hands and feeling free;
And
we promised that we’d think about,
All we still could be…
CHORUS
The past had come between us –
Maybe it was too soon;
We were now a bit older,
And maybe more in tune…
To what was once our –
Yesterday’s moon..
