"More Than Meets the Eye"

“More Than Meets The Eye”
Copyright by Frank A DeCenso, Jr.

As a young girl I did all that I should,
Everyone knew me as the girl who always would;
Did my friends homework, and worked after school,
Went to prom alone and felt like a fool.
Met a new boy - taught me how to laugh,
Went to the park and took his photograph;
Called one night and I was all ears,
When done talking I swiped away the tears.

CHORUS
Someone told me without wings you'll never fly
Someone sold me everything I'd never buy...
Some promises, now broken up and battered...
A box of dreams, someone else had shattered...
Then I woke up - suddenly realized
I am much more than meets the eye
So much more...than meets the eye

I got older and turned more quiet,
Tried to date some men but can’t deny it;
They all told me I wasn’t their type,
Even when my feelings, always felt right.
Years passed by and it was harder to learn,
Even with qualities you can be burned;
Then I decided to switch the gears,
And now I’m running without all those fears.

CHORUS
Someone told me without wings you'll never fly
Someone sold me everything I'd never buy...
Some promises, now broken up and battered...
A box of dreams, someone else had shattered...
Then I woke up suddenly realized
I am much more than meets the eye
So much more...than meets the eye

BRIDGE
Don’t try and tell me I’m not good enough,
I look in the mirror and I see the right stuff…

CHORUS
Someone told me without wings you'll never fly
Someone sold me everything I'd never buy...
Some promises, now broken up and battered...
A box of dreams, someone else had shattered...
Then I woke up - suddenly realized
I am much more than meets the eye
So much more...than meets the eye
