“You Should Have Stayed”

“You Should Have Stayed”
Copyright by Frank DeCenso, Jr.

[Vs1]
I used to know a guy,
He looked just like you;
He had the same name,
And the same tattoo.

[Vs2]
He’s been gone a while,
He never even wrote;
Just packed up and left me,
With a scribbled up note...

CHORUS
It can’t be you,
Who I once knew,
You are too well behaved.
How can it be,
That the more I see,
I think it’s you –
You should have stayed.

[Vs3]
You left this girl alone,
To shed a million tears;
But I got over you,
It just took a few years.

[Vs4]
Now you want me back,
You say you’ve changed a lot,
I guess you may have, but
I haven't yet forgot...

CHORUS
I think it’s you,
Who I once knew,
And you seem well behaved.
I guess it’s true,
It’s really you,
And you tell me –
You should have stayed.

[BRIDGE]
I’ve moved on,
Since you’ve been gone,
I can’t go back there now…
Too much pain,
With little to gain,
I wouldn’t even know how.

CHORUS
I know it’s you,
Who I once I knew,
And you are well behaved.
I guess it’s true,
It’s really you,
But I’m sorry –
You should have stayed.
