They snuck out past the streetlights on the edge of their home town,
Not far from burned out pines, which a year ago fell down;
They hoped everyone understood,
But deep down knew, no one would,
So they made a choice that would turn their world around...

[Vs2]
They took a rusty wagon toward the Western sky,
Hoped their dreams would follow them, unlike the ones that lie;
Laying 'neath the floating stars,
Each night warm in the other's arms,
A day or two from change they hoped would never die...

[Vs3]
Tomorrow held their future with a foggy hand,
They didn't know tomorrow's intent, but sometimes no one can;
They tumbled closer with each mile,
Didn't know it but for a while,
It was this long journey that was molding their whole plan...

They stopped somewhere just days from the California coast,
Gazed into each other's eyes and found there more than most;
He opened a box, gave her a ring,

And that meant everything, 
Love brought them here, now they'd both go where they chose.

He drove off to the big city, dressed all nice and neat
He spent each day a working man; more deadlines to keep
She'd sit home on a kitchen chair, staring at his plate
Didn't know when he'd get home or if he'd even ate

The days they passed without a change, she wondered what to do
Cleaning house and washing clothes, nothing ever new
Her neighbor told her "volunteer", watching kids all day
All their parents worked till night, for the corporate pay

One day she met a child's mom; who knew about a place
A job where pay was pretty good; part of the rat race
She interviewed and got the job; her husband never knew
She worked all day until the night, just like he would to

They seemed to feel all wrong

A morning came like they all did; the sky was barely lit
He got to work, a routine day, a leather seat to sit

Through that colored morning sky;

He felt for sure she left for good,

She never said goodbye –

Each midnight was a gambler's chance,

Like spinning Roulette wheels;

All her silky whispered words,

Were never meant for real.

When you played the game as feelings came,
