The highway was abandoned,

Till it reached far out of sight;

Dark mountains like bad memories,

Surrounded him that night;

He thought of how he found her,

Stuck hard to a stranger’s kiss;

His eyes were red with fire's love,

Nothing ever hurt like this…

He drove on through the starlight,

Every signpost asking him -

“Can you forget her mornin' smiles,

As if she’s never been?”

He thought about his future,

And all she promised him;

Could she still feel his heartbeat now…

Or was he too far by then?

I drove down to the river,

And found our secret place;

Looked up counting every star,

That covered midnight’s face…

As I walked a little further,

I felt old mem’ries rise;

When moonlight fell around me,

I recalled your smilin' eyes.

Sat down on frosted grass,

Where we'd meet every night;

You'd laugh as our reflections,

Danced on the water's ice...

I still felt all our wintertimes,

And how the snowflakes felt;

They laid upon your velvet skin -

And with my lips they’d melt.

Sitting there I journeyed back,

You heard a love song's riddled rhyme,

That song's not what you chose...
